SCARBOROUGH — Albert Cannell, 66, of Scarborough and East Baldwin, died on Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, after a long and inspirational battle with cancer.
Al was born on July 12, 1948, in Gray and raised as the foster son of Roland and Doris Guptill in West Baldwin on their working farm. He graduated from Potter Academy in 1966 and enlisted in the  Army, serving during the Vietnam Era. Thereafter, he maintained membership in the American Legion and  VFW. Al worked most of his life as a master electrician, having worked a decade for the Maine Central Railroad, almost two decades for Bob Walker, Inc. and was employed for the last decade at Hannaford Brothers as an Energy Project manager.
Active in his community, Al held multiple positions with charitable organizations, recently as a junior warden of the Greenleaf Masonic Lodge #117 in Cornish, second VP of the York County Shrine Club, 2013 president of the Pioneer Club, emeritus director of the Kora Log Rollers Unit and an officer with Teocalli #59 Order of Quetzalcoatl. In addition, he was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Kora Temple in Lewiston, member of the Scottish Rites of Portland and the Widows Sons Maine Chapter.
An avid outdoorsman, Al filled spare moments with camping, hunting, motorcycling, snowmobiling and puttering around on his tractor, and found a few more to help out family, friends and neighbors with any need. He maintained a great sense of humor until his last day.
Al leaves much love and fond memories to his wife, the love of his life, Linda; son, Jeff; daughter, Wendi; two stepchildren, Michael and Sheryl; four grandchildren; brother, Roger; and numerous great friends.
He was predeceased by his favorite aunt.
A Masonic memorial service conducted by the officers and members of the Greenleaf Masonic Lodge will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Watson Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish.
