PORTLAND — Agnes Hattie (Cook) Olsen Chantland, 97, of Portland, died Sunday, March 22, 2015.

She was born in Portland on July 9, 1917, the daughter of Frederick L. and Frances G. Willard Cook. She attended Portland schools, graduating from Portland High School Class of 1935. She married Capt. Clarence O. Olsen, PFD, in September 1938 until his death in May of 1978.

Agnes was a teacher’s aide in the Portland school system for several years until her retirement. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Portland, where she was a member of the choir for many years, a Sunday school teacher for 30 years and served on several committees. She was also on the Board of Incorporators for the Portland Area Lutheran Services.

She married her second husband, Charles H. Chantland, who she met at First Lutheran Church in 1985, until his death in 2007.

She is predeceased by her sisters, Celina R. (Cook) Hamilton and Frances M. (Cook) Bamford; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Agnes leaves two sons, Richard A. Olsen of Portland and Walter D. Olsen of Windham; three daughters, Karen M. Libby of Casco, Althaea G. White of Pownal and Janice E. Ferrante of Gorham; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Agnes Life was celebrated on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Auburn Street, with Rev. David Alvord officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Forest City Cemetery, South Portland.
