About the Candidate: Helen Rankin

Helen Rankin

Helen retired after 39 years as School Nutrition Director for Maine School Administrative District 55 and is currently the State Representative for District 97 in the 124th Legislature. As a school nutrition director, she supervised five elementary schools and one high school and oversaw a staff of 14. She taught school nutrition classes in Maine and several other states.

Helen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Administration and Vocational Technology from the University of Southern Maine and is a Certified School Nutrition Specialist.

Professional organizations Helen belongs to include the Maine School Food Service Association/past president and Legislative chair for 25 years where she was actively involved in Maine and in Washington, D.C.; the American School Food Service Association (55,000 members)/Northeast Regional director for nine states and on the Public Policy and Legislative Committee for two years in Washington, D.C.

Helen is involved in several community organizations including the Hiram Community Church, the Hiram Historical Society (treasurer of the Veterans’ Memorial Monument Committee), Hiram Women’s Club and the Hiram Enhancement Society.

She is the widow of Albert Rankin and the mother of two adult children.
